1. Do I have to go to meetings?

No, not really, although you should know we provide cookies! Meetings are an optional part of PTA membership, and happen a few times a year. However, the guest speakers we invite often have extremely valuable and interesting information (for example, IPD’s Officer Ayala and his fantastic internet safety briefing), and the meetings provide you with an opportunity to find out what is going on in the school and in the PTA, and to voice your opinion on the activities of the PTA. We particularly welcome new members to the meetings who may have had experience in other districts and can come in with fresh new ideas for future events we can run. As a member, you get to vote and influence the direction of PTA and what we are doing for the students and the school.

2. I paid my dues, is that all I need to do?

Thank you so much! You have already made a valuable contribution to the PTA, supporting your school and receiving the perks and benefits that come with being a PTA member. However, the $15 PTA membership fee basically covers the necessities for running the PTA – insurance for events and administrative costs for example. This is why we need to also run fundraisers, in order to put on the activities and events that so enrich the school experience for the students. In addition, NOTHING could be done without the many volunteers who contribute generously of their time. Irvine district in particular is low in the amount of funding state-wide that each child receives compared to many other districts. The PTA’s primary goal is to fill that gap and in so doing, enhance the children’s education through our programs and activities.

3. Where do my membership dues go?

For your $15 membership fee, you will get to be a part of the National PTA and California PTA as well as Stone Creek’s PTA. Here are some quick links to explain about being a member of the National PTA benefits as well as California State PTA benefits.
We ask that each family has at least one active parent as a member. You aren’t required to sign up an entire family (adults, kids, etc). You can sign up anyone who wants to be actively involved in your student’s school (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, etc). You don’t have to have a child as a student to be a Stone Creek PTA member.
As a Stone Creek PTA member, you get the following additional benefits:
  • Attendance at General Association Meetings (listen to and speak up about issues)
  • Cast your vote on important matters and decisions
  • Local Business Discounts
  • Actively involved in your child’s education/school
  • A copy of the school directory

4. Why do we have these fundraisers?

The programs and events we hold at Stone Creek require funding. We make every effort, as volunteers and as a non-profit organization, to maximize the return of every dollar we receive. Every program and event we hold is designed to enhance the students learning experience, and create lasting memories. Without these fundraisers, we cannot provide these programs and events. If you have any ideas for better fundraisers, or different events, we would be delighted to invite you to join the PTA and make your voice heard.

5. What’s in it for me?

THE most often asked question!  Parents really want to know what they’ll get out of it. So here are some direct benefits you can feel better about:

  • Get more directly involved with your child’s school
  • Be a role model to your peers and family – and especially your student. You wouldn’t believe how excited the children are to catch a glimpse of THEIR parent in school helping! Well, until roughly 5th grade anyway!
  • Hear directly from our Principal, PTA board and special guest speakers at Association meetings
  • Hear about important changes to school programs, funding, and curriculum
  • Have direct voice and access to a group that helps with school decisions (programs, activities, social events, and more)
  • Meet other parents with kids in the same school and area
  • Be part of the solution, not just the discussion or gossip
  • Learn to work with a team and new skills by being a committee chair or executive board leader. Honestly – we’re a REALLY nice bunch!

6. How does this help my student?

The short answer: in countless ways!
  • Enriches your student’s education with new programs that may lack or have lost government funding
  • Creates opportunities for learning about technology and new programs
  • Show your student that you are actively involved in their school and believe their education is important
  • Reinforce programs by knowing more about what’s available to students
  • See their family engaged and utilizing all the resources our local school offers
  • Creating precious memories of school life, and takeaway mementos such as the Yearbook that will last a lifetime.

7. How do I get more involved?

Membership is important, so start by becoming a member of Stone Creek PTA today. Your membership runs for the school year, so most parents sign up or renew their membership at the start of each school year and renew each year. We encourage families to sign up for membership for each adult or any other family member that wants to be involved with your child’s school.

Next, get active and get involved. You can show up to Association meetings which are announced well in advance for the whole school year. These meetings are held to allow the Association members to vote on important actions taken by the Stone Creek PTA as well as hear news and updates from school staff, district board members and other community leaders.
Volunteer for programs and fundraising events. Programs are offered to enhance the student experience at Stone Creek. We need volunteers to ensure these programs are run properly and report back to the PTA about how it is working out. Fundraisers allow us to have fun while raising money that supports the programs of the PTA. We have seasonal and annual events that every student gets to enjoy. Visit our volunteer positions page here for more information.
Contribute – either financially to the fundraising events, or with your time, or both!
Attend – join us at restaurant night, buy from Amazon through Amazon Smile, come to the Spring Carnival, cheer the kids on at Jogathon. Be a part of this wonderful community!

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you have an hour a day or an hour a month, advanced website skills or a latent art talent, the first step is to reach out and let us know you want to be involved so please complete the volunteer form and let us know what you are interested in doing!
